The Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique (ENIDH), together with the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), obtained funding for a Research and Development project, under the "FRONTEX RESEARCH GRANTS PROGRAM – Grant Agreement 2023/352" program. The researchers at ENIDH are professors Hugo Marques, Mário Assunção, Pedro Teodoro, Ricardo Póvoa and Rosa Marat. The researchers at IST are professors João Fernandes and Paulo Branco.
The project called "Smart Energy Management System for Sustainable Extended-range Marine Unmanned Surface Vehicles - SEMS4USV" started in September 2023 and will last 1 year.
The work intended to be carried out will be carried out with the vessel USV-enautica1, developed in the Sea2Future project. The project is part of the research line "Autonomous vessels and energy efficiency" of the Research and Development Center (CID) of the Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique.

The funding of €54,073.60 will allow the payment of two research grants, a research initiation grant, and various equipment.

The topics of the scholarships that will be awarded to ENIDH are:

1) identification and definition of profiles and typical mission variables in border surveillance actions to model USV parameters and the development of its intelligent energy management system;

2) Development and application of multi-objective optimization tools to configure an initial mission plan and carry out simulations of typical scenarios to test the performance of the deployed intelligent energy management system.
