MARINE ELECTROTECHNICAL ENGINEERING
INTRODUCTION
STUDY PROGRAMME
In recent decades the global market has considerably increased in size and complexity and, therefore, it was possible to observe both an increase in the number and size of the fleet and the emergence of new types of merchant vessels. Changes introduced to STCW Manilla 2010 aim at training specialised people who will be dealing with new types of vessels. Considering the increase of complexity of the electrical technology and electronics on board and the tool systems, automation and computerisation that invaded the vessels' modern conception, new education, training and assessment programs were established. It is in this context that the category of electrotechnical officer (ETO) is created. The training and certification of an electrotechnical officer have to follow Section A-III / 6 of STCW (minimum mandatory requirements for the certification of electrotechnical officers)

The degree course in Marine Electrotechnical Engineering aims at providing students with the minimum mandatory knowledge so that they may obtain the certification of an electrotechnical officer, enabling them to be responsible for the maintenance and repair of both the vessel's electric facilities and systems associated thereto.

The aim of the course is to provide students with skills in the following areas:
• vessels' propulsion main system;
• production systems and energy distribution in low (LV) or medium voltage (MV);
• LV and MV electrical panels;
• electrical safety systems including life-boats, winches and lightening, etc..
• vessel's automation system;
• electrical systems in accommodation, including galleys and laundries;
• navigation auxiliary systems;
• internal and external communication systems.

Entry Criteria:
• 07 Physics and Chemistry
• 19 Mathematics A

Requirements
  • Group A requirements, to be proved by medical statement, which must be presented by the candidate at the time of registration and enrollment.
