The MoniTraffic project, within the scope of the Blue Fund (Fundo Azul), aimed to develop na integrated system for the characterization, monitoring, and surveillance of maritime traffic off the Portuguese mainland coast, including port areas.
This objective was achieved through the development of tools for characterizing maritime traffic routes and operational profiles, as well as for the automatic detection of abnormal behavior in merchant navy ships and fishing vessels.
The integrated system aimed to provide information on typical ship routes to increase the safety and efficiency of current maritime operations, enabling future operations with autonomous ships, and providing alerts for anomalous situations to support the monitoring and control of coastal and port traffic.
The researchers from the Infante D. Henrique Maritime College (ENIDH) were Professors Emídio Torrão (Principal Investigator), Pedro Silveira, Mário Assunção, and Pedro Teodoro.
