The entry into force in 2012 of the amendments to the IMO (International Maritime Organisation) STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) Convention reinforces new requirements for the training of marine engineer officers at management level.
The management level includes 2nd class engineer officers and chief engineer officers. ENIDH's
Master's in Marine Engineering (MEMM) is essential for the advanced training and certification of these officers.
Successful completion of the first year of the
Master's in Marine Engineering satisfies the mandatory minimum requirements for obtaining certificates of competency for 2nd class engineer officers and chief engineer officers on ships whose main propulsion machinery has a propulsion power equal to or greater than 3000 kW, as provided for in the STCW Code (Regulation A-III/2).
