The Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Náutica joined the Portuguese Maritime Administration (DGRM) delegation at the IMO subcommittee "The Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping - 11th session (HTW 11)" which took place from February 10 to 14.
The following topics were discussed within the working groups established:
- The HTW continued its work on the global review of the STCW Convention, 1978. The global review is being carried out in two phases—Phase 1 is a review phase that requires an analysis of the gaps to identify the work that needs to be done; Phase 2 is a review phase that proposes and agrees on amendments to address the identified gaps.
- The HTW began drafting provisional guidelines for the training of seafarers on ships using alternative fuels and new technologies. It was agreed that the guidelines would be developed in a hybrid format, providing generic requirements for all types of fuel/energy and new technologies, as well as specific requirements for each fuel/technology, considering the particular characteristics of the fuel or technology.
