On 23 May 2024, students from the Higher Professional Technician in Computer Networks and Systems (TeSP-RSI) and Higher Professional Technician in Naval Mechatronics (TeSP-MTN) courses with Prof. Gil Veloso and Prof. João Costa went on a study visit to the Sea Control Centre (CMAR) of the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services (DGRM).
The CMAR is a major national control centre for the surveillance and monitoring of navigation and the different activities of the blue economy, as well as supporting the Portuguese flag fleet and the supervision and control of marine protected areas.
CMAR is responsible for controlling maritime traffic and access to ports (VTS); the Fisheries Control and Surveillance Centre (CCVP); monitoring Marine Protected Areas; responding to crisis situations and supporting maritime search and rescue. These are some of the areas in which CMAR works in conjunction with the competent national and international bodies, in particular the Autonomous Regions of Madeira and the Azores, the Navy, the Air Force, GNR-UCC, PJ, PSP, AT, Maritime Health, Port Authorities, EMSA and EFCA.
The students and teachers of the TeSP-RSI and TeSP-MTN courses would like to thank Mr Fernando Reis, Mr Pedro Guimarães and Mr António Zambujo for their time and dedication in presenting CMAR's technical and operational systems in national and international terms.
