ADVANCED TRAINING FOR SHIPS SUBJECT TO THE INTERNATIONAL CODE OF SAFETY FOR SHIP USING GASES OR OTHER LOW-FLASHPOINT FUELS (IGF CODE)

Objectives
This training course is intended for Masters, Officers, bosun and deck ratings, as well as other personnel with specific safety responsibilities related to the handling, use or emergency response involving fuels on board ships subject to the IGF Code.
Access to the course is subject to the following prerequisites:
To be at least 18 years of age;
To hold a valid Basic Safety Training Certificate;
To hold a valid Medical Fitness Certificate.
The course fully complies with the requirements set out in Table A-V/3-2 of the STCW Code, as well as the guidance provided in IMO Model Course 7.14 – "Advanced Training for Masters, Officers, Ratings and Other Personnel on Ships Subject to the IGF Code".
Trainees who successfully complete the course will acquire advanced knowledge and technical competencies enabling them to operate safely ships that use gases or other low-flashpoint fuels. They will become familiar with the physical and chemical properties of these fuels, the functioning of associated systems and the safety devices installed on board. They will be able to carry out and monitor all fuel-related operations, while simultaneously ensuring compliance with applicable legal requirements. The course will also equip them with the ability to prevent hazards, apply occupational health and safety measures, mitigate environmental pollution caused by potential fuel spills, and understand the systems for fire prevention, control and extinguishing installed on ships subject to the IGF Code.
