At a time the Sea is increasingly becoming a national plan, it is possible to say that all activities related to the maritime-port sector are, therefore, assuming a dominant role in the development of the country. As the only public higher education institution in Portugal with the mission of training professionals for the maritime transport and ports, Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique, seeks to respond to the needs resulting from the growing importance in this sector. For this effect, this institution has highly qualified teaching and administrative staff, high quality facilities and equipment, in particular, simulation systems and laboratories, which have been object of high investment to provide students with the best conditions for the development of skills and qualifications.

Curriculum plans of Deck and Bridge Operations and Marine Engineering courses follow the training standards established by the STWC Convention - International Convention of Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), allowing its undergraduates to obtain the international certificate for the performance of their professional activity in any international merchant marine.

The degree in Port Management as a unique national training offer directed to this area, is considered an added-value in academic and professional terms taking into account its differentiating factor in relation to competitors. The aim of this degree is to provide students with the skills essential for port interface business management as part of a wider logistical system and to improve the efficiency of our ports, a decisive factor to increase national competitiveness.

Transport and Logistics are one of the greatest challenges faced by the country in terms of competitiveness. As regards management, it can be considered the area that has increasingly developed in terms of importance, employability and remuneration level. Companies have realised that for being competitive, they have to invest in this important value chain segment what may actually represent between 12 to 18% of its production total costs. Transport and Logistics Management is an innovative course within the national logistical picture, at the forefront of the latest educational processes, seeking to create highly qualified professionals for the transport and logistics sector in general and for the freight transport sector, in particular.
