Recreational boating and maritime tourism operations are essential to the development of the maritime sector and the realisation of the sea as a national goal.
The growing development of recreational boating and maritime tourism, the increase in the number of vessels at national and international level and their technological evolution require qualified navigators in order to increase the level of safety required for vessels and their users.
The Higher Professional Technical course in Recreational Boating and Maritime-Tourism Operation (TeSP - NROMT) aims to train professionals who are suitable for recreational boating and maritime-tourism activities.
This training programme seeks to contribute to the development of a coherent, compatible, competitive and attractive higher education area for national, European and third-country students, which promotes European cohesion through knowledge, mobility and the employability of its graduates.
It also aims to advocate a major change in the paradigms of higher education, centring it on the overall activity and skills that young people should acquire, and projecting it to various stages of adult life, in necessary connection with the evolution of knowledge and individual and collective interests.
The existence of senior technicians in Recreational Navigation and Maritime-Tourism Operation (TeSP - NROMT) is therefore essential for the safe operation of recreational and maritime-tourism vessels.
The more specific knowledge of a TeSP - NROMT graduate makes it possible to emphasise the qualification of these professionals for activity in the area of recreational boating and maritime-tourism operation, for the national and international markets.
The TeSP - NROMT course provides the content for certification under the STCW Convention. Completion of the course allows access to the maritime career with the professional category of Seaman in accordance with Decree-Law no. 166/2019.
