The Higher Professional Technical Course in Fishing Operations and Maritime Tugs (TeSP-OPRM) aims to train professionals who are suitable for coastal fishing activities and maritime tugs.
Coastal fishing can be artisanal, commercial or recreational and is regulated taking into account the size of vessels, fishing gear, target species, sustainability, selectivity and quantities to be exploited. It is a very diverse and complex activity, using different methods of capture, such as trawling, gillnets, seines, hook-and-line gear and different types of traps.
The activity of maritime, harbour or coastal tugboats is essential for the maritime and harbour sector.
Tugs are support vessels for port or coastal activities, helping ships manoeuvre safely in the port area. Coastal towing also allows for the transport of goods, equipment or vessels without propulsion capacity.
The large number of coastal fishing vessels and tugboats, both nationally and internationally, and their technological evolution, require qualified seafarers in order to increase the level of safety required for these vessels.
The existence of graduates in Fishing Operations and Maritime Tugs (OPRM) is therefore essential for the safe operation of coastal fishing vessels and maritime tugs.
A TeSP-OPRM graduate's more specific knowledge of fishing and maritime tugboat operations makes it possible to emphasise the qualification of these professionals for activity in the area of coastal fishing and maritime tugboats, for the national and international markets.
The TeSP-OPRM course provides the content for certification under the STCW and STCW-F conventions.
